451 Whitworth Serial # 18957 Westley Richards 1883 dated OVS ( Orange Volunteer State) .451 Whitworth cal monkey tail carbine. Serial number 18957. Breech-loading with Whitworth rifled bore. Branded at butt on both sides OVS, These are the early rifle of the Boer War. An example very close to this number exists in the Royal Armories Museum in London. Condition, Very fine with metal having toned to a fine plum patina. Bore is bright. Mechanically fine. Barrel 24 in. 1883 No 4473
